Who's Watching Me - User's Manual

2.0 Scanning for Snoopers
2.1 Different Types of Scans
Who's Watching Me will perform three different types of scans on your computer system for spyware, snoopers and/or keyloggers. The "Search" menu allows a user to enable or disable any of the kinds of scans. The three different types of scans are (1) scanning for snoopers set to automatically start with your computer system, (2) scanning for snoopers that are currently running on your computer system, and (3) scanning for snoopers on the hard drive(s) of the computer system. Below is a screenshot of the "Search" menu showing the three different scanning options.
2.1.1 Scanning for Snoopers Set to Automatically Start With Your Computer System
If the "Startup" menu item under the"Search" menu has a check next to it, when the user presses the "Start" button Who's Watching Me will scan the computer system for snoopers set to automatically start with the system. During the Startup scan, Who's Watching Me will display a status message in the Progress Details that states "Searching for snoopers set to automatically start with your system." The progress bar will show the user how much has already been scanned (by percent). The time to perform a Startup scan will vary according to the speed of your computer. Typically the startup scan takes anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes.
2.1.2 Scanning for Snoopers Running on Your Computer System
If the "Running" menu item under the"Search" menu has a check next to it, when the user presses the "Start" button Who's Watching Me will scan the computer system for snoopers that are currently running on the computer system. If "Startup" is enabled, Who's Watching Me will first perform the Startup scan and then immediately thereafter it will perform the Running scan. During the Running scan, Who's Watching Me will display a status message in the Progress Details that states "Searching for snoopers currently running on your system." The progress bar will show the user how much has already been scanned (by percent). The time to perform a Running scan will vary according to the speed of your computer. Typically the running scan takes anywhere from 1 to 10 minutes.
2.1.3 Scanning for Snooper Files Stored on Your Computer System
If the "Disk" menu item under the"Search" menu has a check next to it, when the user presses the "Start" button Who's Watching Me will scan the computer system for snoopers that are currently being stored on the hard drive(s) of the computer system. If "Startup" and/or "Running" is enabled, Who's Watching Me will first perform these scans and then immediately thereafter it will perform the Disk scan. During the Disk scan, Who's Watching Me will display a status message in the Progress Details that states "Searching for snoopers on your hard drive(s).." Who's Watching Me will also display the current folder/directory that it is scanning. The progress bar will show the user how much has already been scanned (by percent) on the hard drive. If there are multiple hard drives, the progress bar displays the percent done for each hard drive separately. The time to perform a Disk scan will vary according to the speed of your computer. Because the Disk scan performs a thorough analysis of each file on the computer system, it takes much longer to perform this kind of scan than the Startup and/or Running Scan. Typically the Disk scan takes anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to complete. For older computers and/or computers with large hard drives, the user may want to schedule the scan to run at a time that is most convenient. Please refer to the section of the User's Manual relating to scheduling.
2.2 Starting a Scan to Check for Snoopers
To start a scan for snoopers, first double click the Who's Watching Me program icon, or select the Who's Watching Me menu selection from the Start Menu. (The default location on the start menu will be Start / Programs / Who's Watching Me / Who's Watching Me.)
Once the Who's Watching Me program has started, simply click the "Start" button located on the bottom of the program window, as shown below. If you'd like to configure Who's Watching Me's types of scans, before clicking the "Start" button, select the "Search" menu and configure the types of searches you'd like to perform, as explained above. A screenshot of Who's Watching Me while it is scanning is shown below.
2.3 When No Snoopers Are Found
If Who's Watching Me does not find any snoopers on your system, it will report to the user "Who's Watching Me did not detect a snooper" in the Snoopers Details area, as follows:

2.4 When a Snooper is Found
If a snooper is detected, the product name of the snooper will be shown in the "Snoopers found" window. The dialog box below illustrates what the Snoopers found window would show if any snoopers were detected. The "Snooper Details" area displays the product name for the snooper as well as the company name, along with hyperlinks to the product on the Web and to the company's web site. Finally, the "Features" listbox will be displayed that shows what capabilities that particular snooper has. By supplying you with the Features listbox, should you be unfortunate enough to find a snooper on your system, Trapware lets you know what the snooper is capable of monitoring and logging.
